Liberty Hyde Bailey (1858-1954) is considered the father of modern horticulture and a founder of the “New Agrarian” philosophy. He was an American botanist, horticulturist, author and co-founder of the American Society for Horticultural Science. Raised on a working farm in rural Michigan, Bailey became Dean and Director of Horticulture at Cornell University, authoring many books on botany for the scientist and lay man. He was world famous as an horticulturalist. The Farm and Garden Rule book was issued in 1911. It is distinguished by its decorative embossed leather cover.
